Makalu Base camp trek

Makalu base camp trek is one of the high altitude  terrains,Ethnic himalayan life style and alpine climate  are  some feature of this trek . Your journey begins with fifty minute flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar whereas the trek began from Chichila. Makalu base camp trekking contains Makalu Mountain which is fifth highest peak of the world (8468m) and Makalu Barun National park. Which covers 1500sqkm, area.  It is popular for Biodiversity, geographical diversity, climate, local communities, flora and fauna..

Cold climate ,alpine plants   rocky and snow capped mountain introduce the Makalu Base Camp trek. Lower elevation plants like pine, hemlock, fir, shrubs, birch and rhododendron are find there. Green forest is proud of there. Most of the tourist go Makalu trek to see a flora and fauna, enjoy beautiful view snow capped Himalaya and to research about biodiversity and many other. Makalu area is rich in biodiversity. 315 species of  butterflies,  43 species of reptile, 16 species of amphibian , 440 species of birds and 88 species of mammals was  find on Makalu area.  On the pond, river of the Makalu area 78 species of fish were visible. Most amazing animal Asian golden cat found on the altitude of 2517m. Himalayan thar, musk deer, wild yak, boar, snow leopard and red panda are next attraction Makalu region.

People of Makalu Region

 Rai, Sherpa, thakali, limbu are indigenous people of Nepal they are ethnic communities of Makalu Region.Dhaka Topi  is the traditional fabric cloths of Limbus which  the art of making dhaka is taught by one generation to another. You will always see a Limbu man clad in dhaka topi (hat) and scarf, and a Limbu lady in dhaka saree, mekhli, blouse and shawl.In the olden days, the Limbus was skilled in silk farming. In ancient time limbu (Kiratis) were also known as silk traders.

Most Limbu ornaments are nature inspired. Nowadays, traditional Limbu ornaments are used by different ethnic groups and can be found in other parts of Nepal. This is due to the sold by different jewelry shops often referring Nepal.  They have own traditional lifestyle, Like festival, dress up.  Most of the people’s occupation is farming. But now days they work as helper of tourist of this site. This area is mostly ruler area and you have an experience of remoteness.

 Perfect view of  Mount Makalu can be seen from Makalu base camp. It lies at the Beach of Barun River and center of Arun valley. Which is in north east part of Nepal . Sherpani col (5688m.) is one of the most challenging and beautiful pass of this area. Most of the Makalu base camp’s trekkers goal is to pass sherpani col . Sherpani col is only one pass to reach lukla. lukla is  world’s highest situated  airport and  city of Himalaya.Lukla is known as Sherpa shettelment.You will you see legendry Sherpa and their lifestyle in lukla.From Lukla  you will see enchanting  view of Mt Everest 8848m,Mt. Pumori,Mt.Lingtren,Mt.Khumbetse,Mt.Nuptse,Mt.Khumbetse,Mt.Nuptse,Mt.Lhotse,Mt.Ama Damblam Mt.Thamserku and many many more.

Trekking Gear and Best Season

 Above 3000m the weather at night will be freezing cold. we recommend to bring down jacket,sleeping bag(thermal liner make it extra toasty), fleece jacket, thermal underwear, pairs of long paints,3 synthetic t-shert,footwear Trekking boot, trekking socks, rain coat,wollen hat,globes,sun lotion, polarized sunglasses, travel towel, tissue paper, toilet paper, lip bam,camera,back up for mobile and sandal for evening  walk. You will need first aid kit including medicine like,Diamox (for any symptoms of headaches, dinginess, loss of appetite) diarrhea, antibiotics, bandage for blister,  use a lot of water and be vegetarian is best way to survive in mountain. In high you get fresh water if you use water purification tablet or aqua liquid  it will healthy for drink,

 Best season to do Makalu Base camp trek  is from March to May and September to December. Even from May to September it will be monsoon time possibly rainy. From December to March to the weather reach below zero but you will see amazing views of Mount Everest. Even in off season there are few trekkers in mountain.we recommend to do this trekking on best season because of high passes.

Trekking guide and potter

The government of Nepal considers hiring guide or potter above 3000m height. Government have every year providing special training for guide how to be safe on high mountain from altitude sickness, how to use first aid Medical kit in emergency, how to safe life of injured trekkers life in high mountain. Trekking guide has many advantages to High Mountain they will explain about nature, culture, customs, flora and fauna. Every year we heard news trekkers are disappeared in mountain because of lonely trekkers. Before booking your trip insure that your company is register at “Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal’’ (TAAN) www.taan.org.np.

Accommodation and Trekking Permit

Mountain every places it will difficult to find luxurious hotel that why we will provide accommodation according availability of local place sometimes they will offer wooden house roof top is covered with tin. Makalu  Region is difficult to reach by land from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar  by flight which take 50 minute flight.Entry permit of  Makalu Barun national park permit are necessary before starting your trek which will available at Bhrikutimandap in Nepal tourism Board. A Makalu Barun National Park Conservation Area permit (US $30 per person)A Trekkers’ Information Management Systems (TIMS) card (US $20 per person)Trekking or Agencies of Kathmandu are also authorized to issue permit from government.
